Drone registration in Austria

One registration per operator – not per drone – valid across the entire EU. Here is how it works in Austria.

Kurz gesagt
  • Mandatory for drones ≥250 g – and for ANY weight if a camera or sensor is on board.
  • Register once at dronespace.at: 46.80 € for 3 years, covers all your drones.
  • Already registered in another EU state? That registration is valid – do not register twice.

Who has to register?

The operator (owner), not the pilot. Registration is required for drones of 250 g or more – and for lighter drones whenever they carry a camera or another sensor able to capture personal data, unless they are toys under the Toy Directive. In practice: every DJI Mini, Neo or Lito needs a registered operator.

How it works

Register online at dronespace.at (Austro Control). You will need your ID, insurance policy number and payment card. The fee is 46.80 € for three years (ACGV fee schedule as amended by BGBl. II No. 65/2026). You receive an operator ID: display the public part on every drone you operate – and if your drone has a remote ID system, enter it there as well. Keep the secret verification digits private.

Visitors from other EU countries

Your home registration is valid in Austria – EU law prohibits double registration. Non-EU visitors register in the first EASA country they fly in.

Häufige Fragen

Does every drone need its own registration?

No – you register once as an operator. Your operator ID then covers all your drones; just display it on each aircraft.

My drone weighs 249 g and has a camera – do I need to register?

Yes. Under 250 g the registration duty is triggered by the camera, and virtually all camera drones qualify.
